Darcy

I got Darcy shortly after Carney died from Cancer. He was a lovely puppy. He was perfect. He did everything the way a puppy should. He was easy to handle. He didn’t bark or chew anything and housetraining was easy. He clearly loved his work and was playful and keen to please.

darcy181107compAt 7 months old, just before Christmas, he had his first seizure. I was devastated but just wasn’t prepared to accept that he had epilepsy. It took me several months before I would accept the truth. He had idiopathic epilepsy.

I did all the research and he had lots of tests. He then went onto medication, Phenobarbitone and Potassium Bromide. Things levelled out and we went back to training. Sometimes we managed a few weeks between fits, at one stage he went nearly 18 months with no seizures. During this time, Darcy went from strength to strength, winning many rosettes in obedience. In 2006, he won 3 “A” classes and was starting to get rosettes in “B” as well. From time to time the medication would vary, due to dietary or other issues, and the fits would return

No matter how bad he was feeling, Darcy was always happy. He enjoyed life to the full and we had the best holiday ever in October 2007. Only a matter of weeks later, he was so poorly that we had to let him go. I always knew there was a risk that he wouldn’t make it to old age - but I wasn’t ready to say goodbye.
