Training Equipment

leather collar
Leather Collar. All my dogs have one of these once they reach their full adult size. A good quality collar will last their whole life.

half check collar
A Half-check collar - I occassionally use these if necessary. They can also be useful for getting the collar on and off quickly as they loosen easily.

rope leads
Lead. There are hundreds of types available. I use a rope lead with a ring on the end. This means you can use the ring to tie up the dog or shorten the lead when necessary.

clicker
Clicker - Clicker for training using positive reinforcement.

dumbells

Dumbell - for teaching a dog to retrieve.

gentle leader
Gentle Leader and other headcollars e.g. [halti] [gentle controller] are used for various reasons and can be very useful if used carefully and in accordance with the manufacturers instructions.

kumfi harness

Harness [Kumfi stop-pull] can be very useful when used with care.

alleyoop

Alley Oop. A must for clicker trainers! It is used as a “targeting” tool. The dog is taught to go and touch the top of the Alley Oop (which moves, falls over and pops up again). You can then move the article around and teach the dog to go away from you - the start of the sendaway exercise in obedience, and lots of useful tricks... Designed by Gary Wilkes in the US but it is available in the UK.

check chain

Check Chain - a piece of equipment I never use...
